How to master time management

A few years ago my personal (and academic) life was a mess. I was in High school and I failed more than a half of the subjects, my motivation was at rock bottom... and I ended up repeating twice the last academic year.
But at some point of those "troubled" years, I decided to take my life into my own hands, as a free mature individual. Started to write down my thoughts, organize all my stuff, using Google calendar, setting deadlines, ... little by little I achieved to bring order to my inner self (Yes, that sounds like philosophy, even spirituality!)
Well, the thing is I empowered myself to be who I wanted to be and do I wanted to do.

I want to share with you some guidelines and tips that help me to reach my goals and be efficient.
  • Wake up early (even if you're a night owl). Yeah, that one sounds really easy. There are different kinds of people, but biology is more or less the same for everyone. No matter at what time you went to bed, you must follow a morning routine: wake up at the same time everyday plus breakfast time and/or workout and/or whatever you want.
  • Write down your goals (virtually whatever crosses your mind). I mean your personal, academic, business and job goals, and dairy must-do tasks. The ones you have to do today and your career goals, everything. Make lists and keep track of your achievements and activities, give yourself some feedback.
  • Set up a digital calendar. Personally, I use Google Calendar, but there are several services and apps out there. You could (and should) use simultaneously other kind of apps like Evernote, Trello, OneNote, Keep (in my case), etc., there are plenty of them.
  • Break your big tasks/goals into small parts, add these ones to your lists and calendars.
  • Delimit -and define- every single task... no seriously, every single task, did you get it?. I mean, you have to ask yourself: How much time will I need? What's the best time to do it? Don't get me wrong, yes, you can play video games, just plan something like "at 7pm I'll play 1.5h of Battlefield".
  • Make "To do tomorrow/To do today" lists. These "tools" offer a simple and effective way to organize your short-term tasks and goals.  For instance, every night I write on my "To do today" list the stuff I have to do on the next day, and the last item on the list is "To do tomorrow", and that's the last item I mark as checked every day.
  • A little of selfthrust could be great, but avoid being stressed. This is bad for your health and bad for your efficiency and motivation.
  • Apply discipline to every aspect of your life, but leave room for flexibility. If you have an unexpected party don't worry (if it wasn't part of your planning yet ;) ). Furthermore, if you run out of time trying to accomplish a task, just leave it! Move to the next one!
I think that's all! Feel free to comment on this post and correct my english.
